SUMMARY

Wilson Balongo lectures at Kabarak University, in the School of Business and Economics. He is the Coordinator of Kabarak University Innovation and business Incubation. He holds:

  1. A Master of Business Administration (MBA), from Kenya Methodist University,
  2. Bachelor of Commerce, (BCOM Hons) from Kabarak University and,
  3. Member of the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM) Kenya. A professional body for Human Resource Management practitioners in Kenya.

Wilson has filed a patent with Kenya Industrial Property Institute (KIPI), titled COCOB. Ref. NO: KE/P/2022/4373. Cocob briquette is an alternative type charcoal that has a variety of applications that include cooking and heating. Deforestation has substantively contributed to climate change leading to food shortage and hunger. The production and use of Cocob will significantly reduce tree cutting for charcoal.

In May, 2022 he presented a Research Paper titled: Establishing Innovation Management Systems: The Case of Kabarak University at the IASP Africa Division at Konza Technopolis.

In 2016, He was recognized by Kabarak University for his contribution to Innovation for representing the University at the Hult Prize semifinals in Shanghai, China with project ‘KABU Fuel’. This is a waste management project that recycles polythene waste into diesel.

He has also been a Peer Reviewer of the Africa Agriculture Status Report (AGRA) 2015.

Wilson has done consultancy for Agricultural Business Development, in July, 2010 determining commercial viability of processing banana flour by an SME in Meru, County, Kenya.

He has been a speaker at The 6th IREN Eastern Africa Thought Leaders Forum, August 2016, Naivasha, Kenya and The 13th IREN Africa Resource Bank Forum, November 2015, Mwanza, Tanzania.

He is the Faculty Advisor for Enactus Kabarak University, who have been national champions in Kenya and represented the country three times at the Enactus global completion finishing as semi-finalists; 2014 in Beijing, China; 2013 in Cancun, Mexico and; 2011 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

He is also the Faculty Advisor and mentor for the Hult Prize at Kabarak University (Main Campus), a global innovation entity run by the Hult Prize Foundation.

He has represented Kenya as a Faculty Advisor of Hult Prize at Kabarak University in the Hult Prize Global innovation competition at Toronto, Canada in 2019, 2018 and, Shanghai, China in 2017 and 2016.

He has also published opinion articles in the African Executive titled; Textiles Industry: China Thrives as We Watch; Looming Hunger Needs Urgent Deliberations; Kenya: Sugar Industry Must Creatively Approach its Woes.

In 2008 Mr. Balongo received the Community Service Award (CSA) from Kabarak University for being the best grandaunt in community service, Class of 2008.

  3. 2021: As Faculty Advisor of Enactus Kabarak was 1st Runners Up at the Enactus Kenya National Competition and attracted 800 EUROS towards the project titled 'Laundrix'
  4. 2020:Attracted Innovation Grant of Kshs.180,000 from Kabarak University Innovation Fund for project titled ROBAMA.
