The Kabarak University Climate Action Conference & Nakuru Green Innovation Week

Kabarak University, in strategic collaboration with Team Environment Kenya (TEK) and the Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI), is proud to host the inaugural Climate Action, Planetary, Human & Soil Health, Agroecology, Waste Management, Energy Conference and Bamboo Expo—a landmark event formalized through an MoU signed on December 16, 2024. This MoU provides a framework for public, private, and community partnerships to drive environmental conservation and sustainable development.

Conference Dates:
Tuesday 8th – Friday 11th July 2025, at Kabarak University Main Campus

  • Monday 7th July: Arrival, exhibition set-up, and logistics
  • Thursday 10th & Friday 11th July: Academic paper presentations
  • Friday 11th July: Dedicated school day for learners from junior to tertiary institutions
  • Saturday 12th July: E-Mobility Ride and Cycle Display from Nakuru Governor’s Office to Kabarak University (22.6 km), dubbed “Cycling, Skating, E-Motorbike and EV Expo”

THEME: “Enhancing Environmental Resilience for Food Production and Energy Sustainability”

Sub-theme:
“The Role of Academia and Youth in Climate Action, Environmental Conservation, and its Sustainability”

The conference will be officially launched by Dr. Deborah Baraza, Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry. A major milestone of the event will be the launch of a ten-million-capacity tree nursery and seedling propagation center at Kabarak University, supported by a dedicated five-acre land allocation. At least 500,000 seedlings will be ready for transplanting during the event—a bold stride toward climate resilience and landscape restoration.

The Kabarak Botanical Garden: A Regional Conservation and Research Hub
This initiative also includes the development of the Kabarak University Botanical Garden, envisioned as a flagship center for biodiversity conservation, education, research, and eco-tourism. It will feature:

  • Indigenous and endangered tree species
  • Medicinal and economic plants demonstrating their value
  • Agroforestry and bamboo demonstration plots
  • Seed banks and propagation units to support ongoing restoration
  • Educational and recreational zones for learners, researchers, and visitors

The garden reinforces Kenya’s Vision 2030, the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, and the African Union’s Agenda 2063, reflecting Kabarak University’s commitment to a greener, healthier, and more sustainable planet.

We warmly invite stakeholders from across the country and beyond, including:

  • National and County Governments
  • Academic Institutions
  • Private Sector Players
  • Environmental CSOs and PBOs (formerly NGOs)
  • Youth and Women Groups
  • Local and international development partners

Be part of this transformative journey toward a resilient future.
