The sun was out, the stakes were high, and the atmosphere was electric as the Kabarak University football team took to the pitch for the highly anticipated Nakuru University Derby against rivals Egerton University. In a match defined by intensity, passion, and tactical grit, the two giants settled for a 1–1 draw in a friendly that felt anything but ordinary.
From the opening whistle, Kabarak signaled their intent. Controlling the tempo and moving the ball with precision, the team dominated possession and pinned the visitors back in their own half. The sustained pressure finally paid off in the 35th minute, when a brilliant piece of team play carved open the Egerton defense, allowing Kabarak to find the back of the net and send home supporters into a frenzy.
The lead was well deserved, but as the match unfolded, it became a story of what could have been. Kabarak created several clear-cut chances to double the advantage and put the game to bed. However, a combination of the woodwork, narrow misses, and desperate defending kept Egerton within touching distance.

Despite being under pressure for most of the game, Egerton found a breakthrough in the 75th minute, capitalizing on a rare opening to level the score.
“The boys played their hearts out today. We controlled the game and showed the true Kabarak Spirit, but we’ve learned a valuable lesson about clinical finishing. We’ll take the draw, but we’re hungry for more in the next one,” the coach Dr. Justine Oguta remarked after the match.
While the scoreboard reflects a draw, the performance highlighted Kabarak’s status as a formidable force in regional university football. The team now returns to the training ground with heads held high, determined to turn missed chances into goals in the next outing.
