We were honoured to host a delegation from the Kenya National Innovation Agency (KeNIA) today for a high-level courtesy call to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Henry Kiplangat, and members of the University Management Board. The visit marked the commencement of a vital pilot exercise centred on the Framework for Excellence in Intellectual Property (IP) Management in Kenyan Universities.

The exercise, led by KeNIA’s Principal Legal Officer, Kwame Chacha, focused on key institutional outcomes aimed at strengthening the University’s research and innovation ecosystem. The primary objectives included a formal introduction to the framework, an in-depth overview of the diagnostic tools, and a rigorous evaluation to identify institutional strengths and gaps. By establishing a clear roadmap for scoring outcomes and aligning them with institutional master plans, the team seeks to support the transformation of academic research into viable, protected innovations that can contribute to the national economy.
To ensure the long-term success of these interventions, the Kabarak University Directorate of Research, Innovation and Outreach, under the leadership of Dr. Phillip Nyawere, will spearhead the implementation of the findings. The Directorate is committed to integrating the framework’s outcomes into the University’s broader institutional strategies and action plans.
