Monday, 18 May 2026, marked the start of an important week at Kabarak University as a team from the Commission for University Education (CUE) arrived to conduct a Regular Institutional Quality Audit at the Main Campus and Nakuru City Campus from May 18 to May 21, 2026.
The audit is a statutory exercise that allows CUE to assess the University’s compliance with national standards, guidelines, and regulations, and to evaluate how effectively its resources support academic programmes and student enrolment.
The day began with a courtesy call to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Henry Kiplangat, followed by a formal session with the University Management Board and members of Senate. The programme opened with anthems, a devotional reflection, and introductions from both the CUE panel and the University leadership, setting a reflective and professional tone for the week ahead.
A major highlight of today’s programme was a series of presentations by the Vice-Chancellor and members of the University Management Board. These presentations covered governance, institutional policies, academic and physical resources, quality assurance systems, financial management, research integrity, student support services, and community engagement. Each presentation was anchored on the Universities Act, the Universities Regulations 2014, the Universities Standards and Guidelines 2014, and the University’s Self-Assessment Report, supported by documentary evidence.
Over the next three days, the CUE panel will conduct interviews with students, academic staff, administrative staff, alumni, Senate members, the Chancellor, Council, and the Board of Trustees. The team will also inspect critical facilities, including libraries, lecture theatres, laboratories, ICT infrastructure, hostels, staff offices, health facilities, and other support services, alongside a detailed review of institutional records and evidence across departments.
In preparation for the audit, all academic and administrative units were required to ensure proper organisation of facilities, equipment inventory, record keeping, and general readiness. The focus has been on ensuring that systems, documentation, and daily operations clearly reflect the standards set by the Commission for University Education.
The Regular Institutional Quality Audit is an opportunity for reflection, improvement, and strengthening the internal systems that support teaching, learning, research, and service to the community.
The audit will conclude on Thursday with the presentation of the Exit Report by the CUE panel to the University Management, bringing to a close a rigorous and constructive review process.
