Our Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Henry Kiptiony Kiplangat, PhD, MBS, OGW, joined fellow university leaders for a pivotal meeting convened by the Kenya National Innovation Agency (KeNIA) under the Entrepreneurial Leadership Training Program (ELTP). The session brought together 14 Vice-Chancellors from earlier ELTP phases and 11 newly onboarded, fostering collaboration and shared commitment to building Kenya’s innovation-driven future.
In his engagement, Prof. Kiplangat highlighted Kabarak University’s bold steps in strengthening its innovation ecosystem — from the ongoing establishment of a Technology Transfer Office (TTO) to the renovation of the Kabarak University Innovation Center. Our innovation focus spans AgriTech and Food Security, Health Innovation and Biomedical Technologies, Digital Transformation and AI, and Entrepreneurship and Start-ups.
One of our flagship innovations, RespiraMate, is an AI-enabled smart respiratory device revolutionizing asthma management. We also continue to nurture ideas through a rolling Innovation Fund, dedicated piloting space on our university farm, and strong participation in global innovation forums, including AI Everything Global in Abu Dhabi and the China International College Students’ Innovation Competition.

The meeting also marked the signing of an Operational Alliance Strategy between KeNIA and the British Council, which will further support the commercialization of innovations and the establishment of TTOs across new institutions. This aligns with our vision to position Kabarak University as a leader in innovation-led growth, in line with national and global priorities.
As we gear up to host the 4th Central Rift Innovation Week from 15th–19th September 2025, we remain committed to fostering university-industry linkages, advancing cutting-edge research, and empowering innovators to transform ideas into market-ready solutions.
