The Kabarak University School of Business and Economics (SBE) has launched a strategic six-day intensive training program to transition its academic offerings from a traditional knowledge-based model to a Competency-Based Education (CBE) framework. Commencing on February 20, 2026, this proactive initiative is designed to strengthen the University’s preparedness for the first cohort of Grade 12 CBE learners expected to join higher education in 2029. During the opening sessions, Dean Prof. Patrick Kibati emphasized that this shift is essential for developing graduates who possess not only theoretical knowledge but also demonstrable skills, professional capability, and real-world performance.
Facilitated by experienced curriculum development specialists Dr. Lydia Kobia and Murila Musungu, the training focuses on equipping academic staff with the technical expertise required for comprehensive curriculum redesign. The sessions provide a deep dive into practical applications of CBE within university teaching, ensuring that staff can effectively translate evolving national and industry expectations into the classroom. By empowering faculty to redesign courses into competency-based formats, the school is taking a lead role in responding to major national education reforms.
The redesigned curriculum is built upon core objectives aimed at enhancing the value of a Kabarak University business degree, primarily by strengthening graduate employability through practical competence. By integrating knowledge, skills, and values into academic delivery, the program aligns training with modern industry needs while fostering critical thinking and ethical professionalism. Ultimately, this transition ensures that all academic programs within the School of Business and Economics are fully aligned with competency-based learning pathways, securing Kabarak's position at the forefront of academic excellence
