Euro Film Fest Campus Edition Brings Learning and Networking Opportunities to Kabarak University’s Media and Music Students

Today, Kabarak University’s School of Music and Media was alive with excitement as it hosted the highly anticipated Euro Film Fest Campus Edition. This engaging event brought together students and faculty from the media and music departments for a day filled with inspiration, learning, and valuable networking opportunities. The festival provided a unique platform for participants to explore various aspects of the film industry, from pitching and production to the evolving role of technology in filmmaking.

The event kicked off with a film pitching workshop led by none other than Odongo Robbie Wuodcaro, a multi-award-winning filmmaker with vast experience in the African film industry. His session was a masterclass in the art of storytelling and pitching, guiding students through the intricacies of creating compelling narratives that resonate with audiences and potential investors. Robbie’s hands-on approach gave attendees practical tools and insights into how they can successfully pitch their film ideas and secure backing, a crucial skill for any aspiring filmmaker.

Following the workshop, the event transitioned into a series of film screenings. The audience was treated to Lamb, an evocative film co-produced by Ethiopia, Germany, and France, which offered a deep dive into Ethiopian culture and its unique cinematic voice. In contrast, Bangarang, a fast-paced action film from Kenya, showcased the vibrancy and creativity emerging from the East African film scene. The screenings were followed by insightful discussions about the different approaches to filmmaking, emphasizing the importance of cultural narratives and global collaboration in storytelling.

One of the event’s highlights was the Ambassador's Forum, where students had the opportunity to engage directly with European delegates. This open forum allowed students to ask questions about European culture, education, and politics, broadening their global understanding and fostering international dialogue. The forum was an invaluable part of the event, encouraging students to think critically about how cinema serves as a bridge between cultures and how it can help shape perceptions across different regions.

Beyond the workshops and screenings, the event also provided participants with an opportunity to explore sponsorship options and potential exchange programmes within the film industry. Industry experts shared key insights into how students can access funding for their projects and how international collaborations can help expand their professional networks. The exchange programmes discussed also emphasized the global nature of the film industry, encouraging students to think beyond borders and consider how their skills can be used in international contexts.

The day concluded with a networking and refreshments session, where students had the chance to mingle with professionals, exchange ideas, and build connections that could help them in their future careers. This informal setting allowed for deeper conversations and potential collaborations, leaving many inspired and eager to dive into the world of filmmaking with a fresh perspective.

Today’s Euro Film Fest Campus Edition was an immersive learning experience that empowered Kabarak University’s media and music students. By offering practical skills, exposure to global trends, and networking opportunities, the event played a crucial role in equipping students with the tools they need to succeed in the competitive world of film and media.
