Nurturing Nature at Nakuru City Campus: A Step Toward Environmental Stewardship

On July 15th, 2025, a dedicated group of peer counselors from Kabarak University’s Nakuru City Campus, supported by the campus counselor, came together for a day of environmental care. Motivated by the wise words of the Dalai Lama—“It is our collective and individual responsibility to preserve and tend to the world in which we all live”—they set out to make a positive, lasting impact on their surroundings.

The team focused their attention on the trees that were carefully planted around the basketball field, engaging in essential activities such as weeding and pruning. Their goal was to ensure that the trees thrived and continued to grow healthily and sustainably. Through their work, they were not only improving the beauty of their campus but also contributing to the ecological well-being of the surrounding community.

This outdoor activity proved to be more than just a physical task—it was an opportunity to reconnect with nature and appreciate the tranquility and mental clarity that it brings. Research consistently highlights the mental health benefits of spending time in nature, and the peer counselors found that their efforts not only helped the environment but also provided a peaceful respite from their academic pursuits.

As the day concluded, the team felt a profound sense of accomplishment. Although their task was small, they understood that every effort counts in the greater scheme of environmental preservation. Their actions were a reminder that positive change often starts with simple steps and that even small contributions can have a lasting impact.

Kabarak University’s commitment to holistic student development is demonstrated not just in academic excellence but in encouraging students to engage with and care for their environment. The support from the university management in facilitating such initiatives underscores the importance of nurturing both the mind and the surroundings we inhabit.

By nurturing nature, the students of Nakuru City Campus are not only helping to shape a greener future but are also fostering a sense of responsibility and stewardship for generations to come.
