Dr. Daniel Chelule, PhD, a proud alumnus of the Kabarak University School of Education, Humanities and Social Sciences (Class of 2016), is widely regarded as one of Kenya’s most committed education leaders. Currently serving as Chief Principal of Kabianga High School, he has built a career defined by discipline, service, and a consistent focus on improving learning outcomes for young people.
A career grounded in service and steady growth
Dr. Chelule began his teaching career in the early 1990s under the Teachers Service Commission after completing a Diploma in Science Education, specializing in Physics and Chemistry. His first posting in Kerio Valley marked the beginning of a long journey in public education, where he embraced both the challenges and opportunities of teaching in underserved areas.
At Soy Secondary School, now AIC Soy Girls Secondary School, he served for more than a decade. Those early years played a key role in shaping his professional identity. He developed a strong belief that education, when guided by values and discipline, can transform entire communities. His dedication to duty saw him rise through the ranks, eventually being appointed Principal in 2000.
Academic progression that matched leadership responsibility
As his leadership responsibilities expanded, Dr. Chelule pursued further studies to strengthen his capacity as an education administrator. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Science Education followed by a Master’s degree in Education Management, completed in 2006 and 2010 respectively.
By 2011, he had set his sights on doctoral studies, driven by a desire to deepen his understanding of educational leadership and planning. His decision to join Kabarak University was informed by prior personal experience with the institution, where he had interacted with its academic environment as a parent. He was drawn to its strong emphasis on discipline, academic excellence, and holistic development.
A defining academic journey at Kabarak University
Dr. Chelule enrolled in a PhD in Economics and Planning of Education at Kabarak University's School of Education, Humanities, and Social Sciences. His doctoral studies, completed in 2016, became a turning point in his professional life.

Under the supervision of Prof. T.M.O. Ayodo and Prof. Betty Tikoko, he engaged deeply with research and advanced training in educational leadership and institutional management. The program strengthened his ability to think strategically and apply structured approaches to school leadership.
He gained practical skills in areas such as educational planning, policy implementation, human resource management, and data-driven decision-making. These competencies later became central to how he led and transformed schools across the country.
Leadership impact across Kenya’s secondary schools
After graduating in 2016, Dr. Chelule returned to the education sector with renewed focus and a stronger leadership framework. He served as Principal in several institutions, including Kericho Tea Boys, Kericho High School, Kimulot Boys High School, and Londiani Boys High School.
In each institution, his leadership was marked by clear improvements in academic performance, strengthened school culture, better discipline, and increased student enrolment. He introduced structured systems of management that emphasized mentorship, teacher motivation, and stakeholder engagement.
His approach consistently combined data driven decision making with a strong focus on character formation and academic excellence.
National leadership and professional recognition
In 2018, Dr. Chelule was elected Chairman of the Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA), Kericho County, a role he served until 2023. During his tenure, he strengthened collaboration among school leaders and promoted continuous professional development.

One of the notable highlights of his leadership was organizing a major conference in 2022 that brought together nearly 300 principals at Kabarak University. The event reinforced the university’s role as a key partner in advancing educational leadership in Kenya.
Current role and continued impact
In March 2026, Dr. Chelule was appointed Chief Principal of Kabianga High School, a national institution with a strong academic tradition. He continues to apply the leadership principles refined over decades of practice and strengthened during his time at Kabarak University.
His current focus is on sustaining academic excellence while nurturing disciplined, purpose driven learners who are prepared to thrive beyond the classroom.
A message of recognition and goodwill
On behalf of the entire Kabarak University community, the Vice Chancellor extends heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Daniel Chelule, PhD, for his exemplary leadership journey and continued contribution to the education sector in Kenya. The University also expresses sincere appreciation for his ongoing embodiment of the values of excellence, discipline, and service that define its graduates.
Kabarak University wishes him continued success, strength, and impact in his current role and in all future endeavors as he continues to shape the next generation of leaders.
Dr. Chelule’s journey is a reminder that meaningful leadership is built over time through learning, service, and consistency.
