Kabarak University has commenced a two-day Pedagogy Training programme for newly appointed academic staff, organized by the Directorate of Excellence in Learning and Teaching (DELT). The training, taking place from February 5–6, 2026, is designed to equip new faculty members with effective teaching competencies aligned with the University’s academic philosophy and Kenya’s evolving higher education reforms.
The programme officially opened with a devotional session, followed by welcoming remarks and an overview of the training objectives delivered by Dr. Lydia Kobiah, PhD, Acting Director of DELT, who emphasized the central role of quality teaching in shaping meaningful and transformative learning experiences.

During the official opening, Prof. John Ochola, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & Research), delivered remarks on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Henry K. Kiplangat, highlighting the University’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation in teaching, and the continuous professional growth of its academic staff.

The training curriculum places strong emphasis on the foundations of Competency-Based Education (CBE) in Higher Education, with a lead session conducted by Dr. Kobiah. This was followed by a session on Learner-Centered Pedagogy facilitated by Prof. Gladys Kiptiony, Dean of the School of Education, Humanities and Social Sciences. Additional sessions are led by senior University leaders and experienced faculty, providing participants with both strategic insight and practical guidance.

Throughout the programme, participants are being introduced to core elements of CBE, including its guiding principles, learner-centered teaching approaches, assessment frameworks, and the development of competency-based rubrics. The training blends interactive presentations with hands-on practical activities, enabling new academic staff to align teaching strategies, assessment methods, and learning outcomes with the University’s transition toward Competency-Based Education.
Key areas of focus include constructive alignment, mastery learning, and quality teaching practices designed to enhance student engagement, improve learning outcomes, and strengthen academic standards across disciplines.
