At the Kabarak University ODEL Centre, faculty members convened for the first professional development session of the year, a refresher training on the conversion of teaching notes for asynchronous facilitation in preparation for the January - May 2026 semester. The session focused on the practical process of transforming conventional classroom materials into high-quality, self-paced learning modules. This initiative equips lecturers to effectively support learners within a digital academic environment where access to education transcends time and physical location, enabling students to engage with course content at their own pace.
The Deans of the School of Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, the School of Science, Engineering and Technology, and the School of Business and Economics shared their insights, encouraging faculty to work closely with the University’s ODEL technical team. They emphasized that a collaborative approach between academic departments and the ODEL Centre is essential for the development of world-class digital learning content. Complementing these views, Prof. Karume, Director of Kabarak University ODEL, underscored that the effectiveness of self-paced learning depends on a fundamental shift in pedagogy, where well-structured content replaces traditional lectures, and consistent feedback serves as the primary link between instructors and learners.

As the University prepares for the May 2026 semester, these training initiatives ensure that all online courses uphold the same academic rigor associated with Kabarak University’s physical lecture halls. Faculty members are actively redesigning their curricula to enhance clarity and student engagement within asynchronous learning environments, enabling the University to expand its reach while maintaining the high standards that define its academic excellence.
