Kabarak University, in partnership with Nanjing University and Egerton University, has officially launched the African Edition of the China International College Students’ Innovation Competition (CICSIC) 2026. The launch and sensitization session took place on 11 June 2026 at the ODeL Centre, bringing together students, academic staff, researchers, innovators, and entrepreneurs to explore opportunities presented by one of the world's leading innovation and entrepreneurship platforms.
The event marked a significant milestone in advancing innovation, entrepreneurship, research excellence, and international academic collaboration across African higher education institutions. The launch was presided over by the Vice-Chancellor of Kabarak University, who officially unveiled the African Edition of the competition and underscored the critical role of innovation and research in addressing contemporary societal and global challenges.

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor encouraged students, researchers, and staff to actively participate in CICSIC 2026, describing it as a valuable platform for transforming innovative ideas and research outputs into practical solutions with global relevance and impact. He also highlighted the importance of the partnership between Kabarak University, Nanjing University, and Egerton University in fostering knowledge exchange, strengthening innovation capacity, and enhancing global engagement for African institutions.
Participants received an overview of the China International College Students’ Innovation Competition (CICSIC), a prestigious global initiative that promotes innovation, entrepreneurship, and the commercialization of research among university students. The African Edition offers a unique opportunity for students across the continent to showcase their innovations on an international stage while benefiting from mentorship, networking opportunities, and exposure to global experts, institutions, and industry leaders.
During the sensitization session, participants were guided through the competition's registration process, participation requirements, and project submission expectations. The competition features four categories:
- Undergraduate Idea Group
- Undergraduate Startup Group
- Postgraduate Idea Group
- Postgraduate Startup Group

Participants were encouraged to develop innovative solutions addressing key global priorities, including artificial intelligence and digital transformation, health and biomedical innovation, agriculture and food security, energy and climate action, education and skills development, smart manufacturing, entrepreneurship and startup development, social innovation, and research commercialization.
The competition timeline was also outlined, beginning with the African Edition launch and sensitization in June 2026, followed by team formation and idea development, mentorship and project refinement, submission and evaluation, and culminating in the global finals scheduled for Nanjing later in 2026.
Participants were encouraged to register via the official CICSIC portal and begin forming multidisciplinary teams to develop impactful, market-ready innovations. The launch generated significant interest within the university community, strengthened the culture of innovation and entrepreneurship, enhanced collaboration among partner institutions, and identified promising student-led innovation projects with potential for international recognition.
