Kabarak University, through the School of Music and Media’s Department of Music and Performing Arts, successfully hosted its First Annual Music Symposium, bringing together secondary school students and teachers for a day of learning, engagement, and musical exploration. The symposium provided a valuable academic platform for learners studying music at the secondary school level to deepen their understanding of key musical concepts while interacting with university-level resources and expertise.
The programme featured a series of structured academic sessions designed to equip both teachers and students with the tools needed for effective preparation for music examinations. Learners from different classes participated in specialised sessions covering areas such as Western and African music analysis with live performances, prescribed composers, rhythm interpretation, sight reading, listening skills (aurals), and essential examination preparation strategies. These sessions offered participants practical insights into music theory and performance, helping them strengthen their analytical, practical, and interpretative skills.

In addition to the academic sessions, students also participated in engaging edutainment segments and interactive discussions that created a dynamic learning environment. The symposium further provided an opportunity for visiting schools to explore Kabarak University’s music facilities and gain a deeper appreciation of the training opportunities available within the School of Music and Media and the university at large.
A highlight of the afternoon programme was an interactive open forum where students and teachers engaged in discussions on music education, career pathways, and the broader role of music in society. The forum encouraged participants to ask questions, share perspectives, and learn more about the opportunities available for students pursuing music and performing arts at the university level.
