Day 3 Highlights: Empowering Innovation Through Hands-On GenAI Tools and Applications at the Generative AI Bootcamp at KABU

Day 3 of the Generative AI Bootcamp at Kabarak University continued the series’ momentum by offering participants an immersive and highly practical experience focused on cutting-edge tools in cloud-based GenAI, multimodal interaction, and computer vision. The day brought together learners from diverse academic backgrounds—both physically and online—further strengthening Kabarak’s growing GenAI learning community.

The morning session opened with “GenAI with Azure AI Foundry,” facilitated by a representative from Microsoft. Participants were introduced to Microsoft’s AI platform and its suite of tools designed for building, deploying, and managing generative AI solutions in enterprise and institutional contexts. The session covered how Azure AI Foundry supports both technical and non-technical users through flexible development environments. Real-world education and productivity use cases were demonstrated, sparking participant interest in how GenAI tools can be applied to solve challenges in learning environments.

The mid-morning session, titled “Gemini Unleashed: Learn, Build, Create,” was delivered by a GenAI Developer and IoT Lead from Safaricom. This interactive session explored Google’s Gemini platform—a rapidly evolving AI ecosystem that supports multimodal learning and creation. Attendees were taken through demonstrations showcasing Gemini’s capabilities in processing and generating text, code, and media. The facilitator emphasized how students and developers can integrate Gemini’s features to build AI-powered apps and services tailored to emerging needs across education, business, and community development.

The afternoon concluded with an exciting session on Computer Vision in GenAI, focusing on image generation using DALL·E and Stable Diffusion. Participants explored how large generative models interpret text prompts to produce high-quality images. The facilitator broke down key concepts in computer vision, model architecture, and prompt engineering, while live demos gave attendees the opportunity to see AI-generated art and illustrations come to life. The session also highlighted ethical and creative considerations in generative visual media, particularly in educational, marketing, and design contexts.

Throughout the day, engagement levels remained high as participants asked questions, tested tools, and envisioned ways to use GenAI in academic and professional settings. The combination of theory, demonstration, and hands-on exploration ensured that learners left with both conceptual clarity and actionable skills.
