Kabarak University Begins Development of 2027–2031 Strategic Plan to Shape Its Next Phase of Growth

Kabarak University has begun the process of developing its Fifth Strategic Plan, covering the period 2027–2031, with an inception meeting held on Thursday, 5 November 2026. The exercise sets the stage for a comprehensive review of the University's progress and the formulation of priorities that will guide its next phase of institutional growth.

The meeting brought together members of the University Management Board, the Strategic Technical Committee and the University's strategic planning consultant, Dr. Geoffrey Otieno of Enreal Limited.

Officially opening the meeting, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Henry K. Kiplangat noted that the new Strategic Plan would build on the foundations established through the University's previous four strategic plans. He emphasised the need to assess past achievements, examine existing challenges and identify emerging opportunities that will shape the University's future.

The 2027–2031 Strategic Plan comes at a time when higher education is undergoing significant changes driven by technological advancement, artificial intelligence, evolving labour market demands, new approaches to teaching and learning, and growing expectations for research, innovation and institutional sustainability.

The Vice-Chancellor called for a forward-looking and practical plan that would strengthen the University's competitiveness, enhance the relevance of its academic programmes, expand research and international partnerships, improve financial sustainability and leverage technology to improve service delivery.

He further emphasised that the process must be inclusive, noting that the development of the Strategic Plan was a collective institutional responsibility. He urged members of the Management Board, Strategic Technical Committee, Deans, Directors and Heads of Departments to contribute actively and think beyond individual departmental interests in shaping a common institutional direction.

Dr. Otieno is expected to guide a comprehensive review of the implementation of the 2022–2027 Strategic Plan, undertake an assessment of the University's internal and external environment, and facilitate the development of strategic objectives, initiatives and measurable performance indicators.

The resulting plan will also provide an implementation framework outlining responsibilities, timelines, resource requirements and mechanisms for monitoring, evaluation and reporting.

Prof. Kiplangat stressed that the University seeks more than a strategic document. The plan should serve as a practical management tool to guide decision-making, resource allocation, performance management and institutional development over the next five years.

As the process gets underway, Kabarak University looks forward to the active participation of its stakeholders in developing a shared roadmap that will strengthen its position as a leading Christian university committed to academic excellence, integrity, innovation, and service to humanity.
