Kabarak University Chapel Service Calls on Community to Trust God Through Life’s Storms

Life does not always go as planned. There are moments when challenges seem overwhelming, answers are hard to find, and the future feels uncertain. This reality shaped the heart of Wednesday’s Chapel Service at Kabarak University, where the University community gathered for praise, worship, and a message of encouragement from God’s Word.

The service began with praise and worship, bringing the congregation together in thanksgiving. A musical presentation by the School of Music and Media Orchestra added to the occasion, showcasing the students’ musical talent and creating a fitting atmosphere for worship.

The congregation then listened to a sermon by Rev. Dr. William Koros, titled “Moving Forward Through the Storm,” based on Acts 27:21-25. Drawing from the biblical account of Apostle Paul’s voyage to Rome, Rev. Dr. Koros reflected on how Paul remained hopeful even when a violent storm left everyone aboard the ship fearing for their lives.

His message was simple but timely: everyone faces storms in life, and faith does not mean being spared from difficulties. For some, the storm may be financial pressure; for others, it may be a family challenge, illness, disappointment, or uncertainty about what lies ahead. What matters is how we respond when life becomes difficult.

Rev. Dr. Koros encouraged the congregation to hold on to three things when facing such moments: courage, the assurance of God’s presence, and a sense of purpose. He explained that courage is not the absence of fear, but the willingness to keep going despite it. He also reminded the congregation that difficult circumstances do not mean God has abandoned them or that their purpose in life has come to an end.

Reflecting on Paul’s experience, he noted that although Paul could not control the storm, he remained confident in the God who had assured him of his future. In the same way, the preacher encouraged students and staff to remain grounded in their faith, even when they cannot control the circumstances around them.

The message spoke to the everyday experiences of the University community, reminding them not to allow temporary setbacks to define their lives or discourage them from pursuing their goals. Instead, they were encouraged to face challenges with faith, remain focused on their responsibilities, and trust God through uncertain times.

The service concluded with a benediction from the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Henry K. Kiplangat, sending the congregation back to their daily activities with a message to reflect on.

As the University community left the Chapel, the sermon offered a reminder worth carrying beyond the service: storms may be part of the journey, but they do not have to determine how the story ends.
