Kabarak University joined communities across the globe in marking World Cleanup Day on 19 September 2026, with 126 students and two members of staff taking part in a cleanup exercise at Lake Nakuru National Park.
The University was represented by members of the Environmental Club and the Presidential Award Group during the Nakuru County chapter of the global environmental initiative. The students joined other institutions, organisations and community members in cleaning up the park and promoting collective responsibility for protecting the environment.
The event was hosted by the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) Nakuru in partnership with the Nakuru County Department of Environment. It brought together participants from different sectors, including Egerton University, Mount Kenya University, Rift Valley National Polytechnic, schools, hotels and members of the local community.
The cleanup provided an opportunity for students to put environmental awareness into action while working alongside other stakeholders to support the conservation of one of Nakuru's important natural spaces.
A highlight of the day was a cake-cutting ceremony by the Kabarak University Environmental Club, courtesy of Green Cardinal. The celebration added a memorable touch to the University's participation in the global campaign while recognising the shared effort towards environmental conservation.
The University's participation reflects the role of students in community engagement and environmental stewardship. Through initiatives such as the Environmental Club and the Presidential Award Group, students are encouraged to take part in activities that contribute to the wellbeing of communities and the environment.
Kabarak University appreciates the University Management for its support towards the initiative, which enabled the students and staff to participate in the World Cleanup Day activities.
