Innovation took centre stage as Kabarak University celebrated an impressive achievement, winning two Silver Medals at the Kenya–China Innovation Competition and Award Ceremony.
The Kenya–China Innovation Competition brought together universities, innovators, government leaders, industry experts, and development partners from Kenya and the People's Republic of China to showcase transformative ideas addressing societal and industrial challenges through research and technology.
The event featured remarks by Prof. Shaukat Abdulrazak, Principal Secretary, State Department for Science, Research and Innovation, Kenya, and Mr. Zhang Zhizhong, Minister-Counsellor at the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Kenya. The programme also included presentations of outstanding innovation projects, expert reviews of the competition entries, and the presentation of awards by officials from Nanjing Agricultural University, China.
Kabarak University was represented by a delegation led by Prof. John Ochola, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Research), accompanied by Prof. Simon Kipchumba, Registrar (Administration and Human Resource); Dr. Philip Nyawere, Director of Research, Innovation and Outreach; Dr. Andrew Kipkebut, Coordinator, Innovation and Business Incubation; and Mr. Simor Ruoro, Student Mentor.
Representing the University were two innovative projects developed through the Kabarak University Innovation Club and the Business Incubation Programme. The projects stood out for their originality, technical excellence, and practical application in solving real-world challenges.
Both entries were awarded Silver Medals, a remarkable accomplishment that reflects the University's continued investment in research, innovation, and the development of solutions with meaningful social and economic impact. The achievement further strengthens Kabarak University's reputation as a hub for transformative research and innovation.
Speaking after the awards ceremony, members of the University delegation congratulated the student innovators, mentors, and the Innovation Club for their dedication and creativity. They noted that the recognition demonstrates the University's commitment to producing graduates who are innovative, entrepreneurial, and equipped to solve complex challenges in an ever-changing world.
