Today marked a memorable transition at Kabarak University’s School of Education, Humanities, and Social Sciences (SEHSS), as the community came together to bid farewell to Prof. Frederick B. J. Ngala and officially welcomed Prof. Gladys Kiptiony as the new Dean. The event celebrated not just a change in leadership but the legacy of a man who has profoundly shaped the academic and artistic journey of the university.
Prof. Ngala, a distinguished Professor of Education Management and Leadership, has officially taken up the role of Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic and Student Affairs (DVC ASA) at Garissa University. His tenure at Kabarak University has been marked by visionary leadership, academic innovation, and an unwavering commitment to the arts and education.
A true champion of the creative arts, Prof. Ngala was instrumental in founding the School of Music and Performing Arts in 2016, establishing a vibrant foundation for music education and performance. His passion for choral music—dating back to his founding of the Moi University Choir—propelled Kabarak’s performing arts into the national spotlight. As Chairman of the Kenya Music Festival (KMF), his influence has extended well beyond campus borders.
Beyond the stage, Prof. Ngala led impactful academic reforms as Acting Director of the Directorate of Excellence in Learning and Teaching (DELT), overseeing transformative curriculum reviews across several schools. His scholarship and mentorship have inspired both students and faculty, contributing immensely to Kabarak’s reputation as a center of academic and creative excellence.
The handing-over ceremony, graced by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Henry Kiplangat and members of the University Management Board, was a tribute to Prof. Ngala’s years of service. Prof. Kiplangat expressed deep gratitude for his outstanding contributions and extended best wishes as he embarks on his new leadership role.
We warmly welcome Prof. Gladys Kiptiony into her new role, confident that the School of Education, Humanities & Social Sciences will continue to thrive under her stewardship.
