The systems behind every academic qualification matter just as much as the certificate a graduate carries. This week, Kabarak University is working with the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) to strengthen those systems through a three-day workshop on qualifications registration and graduate data management.
Running from 23 to 25 September 2026, the workshop is focused on the University's registration as a Qualification Awarding Body (QAB), registration of its qualifications in the National Qualifications Database (NQD), and the uploading of graduate data.
The engagement brings together a KNQA delegation and relevant Kabarak University staff for practical sessions on qualifications management, national requirements and the systems used to capture and maintain academic records.
The visiting delegation is led by Hon. Stanley Kiptis, Chairman of the Kenya National Qualifications Authority, and Dr Alice Kande, Director General, KNQA. They were received at the University by Prof. Henry K. Kiplangat, Vice-Chancellor, alongside members of the University Management.
In welcoming the delegation, Prof. Kiplangat appreciated KNQA for partnering with the University in strengthening its qualifications management systems. He noted the importance of ensuring that the University's qualifications and graduate records are accurately captured and properly managed within the national framework.
The Vice-Chancellor also highlighted the need for institutions of higher learning to maintain strong systems that support quality, compliance and continuous improvement in the delivery of education.
Throughout the three-day engagement, participants are being taken through key areas of the Kenya National Qualifications Framework (KNQF), including the registration of Qualification Awarding Bodies and the registration of qualifications on the National Qualifications Database.
The workshop is also providing practical guidance on uploading graduate data and understanding the processes and requirements involved in maintaining accurate qualifications records.
The exercise comes at a time when accurate and accessible academic records are increasingly important to graduates, employers, professional bodies and regulatory agencies. Properly managed records provide a reliable link between the qualification awarded by an institution and its recognition within the national qualifications system.
