A new chapter in international medical training began at Kabarak University this afternoon when Dr. Ela Sadan, a Family Medicine trainee from Israel, paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Henry K. Kiplangat.
Dr. Sadan is undertaking a two-month elective placement at the School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Department of Family Medicine and Community Care. She is a trainee in the Family Medicine Residency Programme at Maccabi Healthcare Services, Southern District, Israel.
During the meeting, Prof. Kiplangat welcomed Dr. Sadan to Kabarak and expressed his appreciation for the collaboration between the University and Maccabi Healthcare Services. He said the exchange provides an opportunity for both institutions to share knowledge and experiences while opening the way for deeper academic and professional engagement.
The Vice-Chancellor also expressed optimism that Dr. Sadan’s placement would be the beginning of a broader partnership, creating opportunities for more scholars and medical professionals from Kenya and Israel to participate in learning and exchange programmes.
Dr. Sadan’s visit is particularly significant as she is the first student from an Israeli institution to undertake training at Kabarak University. Her placement offers her an opportunity to experience Family Medicine and Community Care within the Kenyan healthcare system and engage with the University’s clinical training environment.
Her training will be supervised by Prof. Pamela Kimeto, Dean, School of Medicine and Health Sciences, and Dr. Jonathan Nthusi, Head of Department, Family Medicine and Community Care. The placement is being undertaken in collaboration with Dr. John Borowski, Director, Family Medicine Residency Programme, Maccabi Healthcare Services, Jerusalem and Shephelah Districts, and Dr. Tal Hakmon Aronson, Director, Family Medicine Residency Programme, Maccabi Healthcare Services, Southern District, Israel.
Kabarak University’s Family Medicine residency programme works with several healthcare facilities to give trainees experience across different clinical settings. These include AIC Kijabe Hospital, Tenwek Hospital, AIC Litein Hospital, PCEA Chogoria Hospital, AIC Kapsowar Hospital and Naivasha Sub-County Referral Hospital.
Dr. Sadan’s two-month placement adds an international dimension to this training network and provides an opportunity for the exchange of ideas between healthcare professionals working in different health systems.
For Kabarak University, the visit is a positive step towards expanding international collaboration in medical education and creating more opportunities for students, residents and faculty to learn beyond their usual academic and clinical environments.
