The School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS) at Kabarak University successfully hosted the 2025 Oathing, Pinning, Candle Lighting and Graduands Dedication Ceremony at the K-Law Five Hall, marking a defining milestone in the academic and professional journeys of its graduating students. The ceremony brought together graduands, faculty, university management, alumni, and distinguished guests in a dignified celebration of excellence, service, and professional commitment
In her welcome address, Prof. Pamela Kimetto, Dean of the School of Medicine and Health Sciences, underscored the significance of the ceremony as both a celebration of academic achievement and a solemn transition into professional responsibility. She acknowledged the dedication of faculty, mentors, parents, and partners who supported the graduands throughout their training. Representatives from the graduating classes: Family Medicine, Nursing, Clinical Medicine, Human Nutrition & Dietetics, Biomedical Sciences and Public Health, also gave heartfelt speeches expressing gratitude and reflecting on their transformative journeys

The ceremony was graced by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Henry Kiplangat, accompanied by members of the University Management, as well as guests from the health sector and alumni community. In his keynote address, the Vice-Chancellor congratulated the graduands and urged them to uphold Kabarak University’s core values of Integrity, Professionalism, Innovativeness, Mindfulness of Others, and Patriotism as they enter the healthcare profession. He emphasised the importance of ethical practice, lifelong learning, and compassionate service in strengthening health systems locally and globally
A major highlight of the ceremony was the Pinning and Oathing Session, led by Heads of Departments and distinguished professionals. The pinning ceremony symbolised formal admission into professional practice, while the oathing reaffirmed the graduands’ commitment to ethical conduct and service across the disciplines of Clinical Medicine, Public Health, Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Family Medicine, and Nursing. The candle lighting and Nurses’ Pledge, a deeply symbolic tradition, saw the graduating nurses pass the light to the incoming cohort—representing continuity, dedication, and excellence in care

The ceremony concluded with a Health Workers’ Prayer, award of certificates and gifts, a celebratory cake-cutting session, and a vote of thanks delivered by Dr Jonathan Nthusi, followed by a closing prayer. Special recognition was accorded to Prof. Pamela Kimetto for her exemplary leadership and commitment to nurturing competent and ethical healthcare professionals.
Overall, the 2025 Oathing, Pinning, Candle Lighting and Graduands Dedication Ceremony was a resounding success, leaving a lasting impression on all attendees.
